Great job Beth and Helpers and Donors!

A big bundle of thanks goes out to the folks who made Chapman Township’s second annual community picnic a rousing success.

I’m pretty sure everyone who was at Chapman Township’s summer picnic Saturday will agree with me that Beth Whitty did a stupendous job and organizing the event. There was fun for everyone, good food, entertainment and just a great time to socialize with friends and neighbors who are Chapman residents. Volunteers who worked with Beth include: Chapman Twp Board of Supervisors, Doug Rowe – Red Hill celebration and picnic coordinator, Professor Dave Broussard from Lycoming College- Red Hill tours, Sue Friese – Kitchen / food prep and organization, Rick Davenport – Grill Master Extraordinaire, and bands including Bud & the Dynamics, Drocton Hill, and 7th St. Praise Band. Also: Roland and Robin Davenport and Etta Veverkan for horse rides, Disney Characters: The Little Mermaid, Ariel – Katilyn Conway (also adverting, picnic prep, and poster creation) Elsa from Frozen – Cynthia Moore, Anna from Frozen – Brandi LaPlante (also set-up, clean up, advertising) Tinkerbell from Peter Pan (set-up, clean up, advertising, and face painting)- Megan Whitty, Hannah Pedokus – games, Kenny Whitty – set up, signs, and assistant for Clyde Peeling presentation, clean up. Also: Bob Gardner – set up / clean up, Charlie Rossell set up / clean up and Cindy Coleman helped DCNR & Smokey the Bear.

Donors: Gregory Werts, George Machak, Tim Horner, Bob Shank, First Quality Water, K & L Auto Sales, Sportsman’s Hotel, DCNR, North Bend Hotel, Phyllis Kouf, Hometown Distributors, Socky’s Restaurant, Lingle’s Neighborhood Market, Scoot’s Service Center, Saint Joseph’s Church, and Red Hill Fossil Display.

Those dirty rotten scoundrels are at it again …

Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but I’m hearing that some dirty rotten scoundrels have been tearing up things people are trying to fix up. What I heard is that there’s been a break-in at the caboose, tipple, and storage shed in Heritage Park and that graffiti was sprayed on the tipple. I’m told the caboose door was kicked in, one of the louvered windows in the shed was broken and things were moved around in the shed. You know folks, the Heritage Park group is a small group of people working hard to preserve the greater Renovo area’s history. They are working with a short shoestring budget. They put in a lot of their time, their talents and their own money just to keep Heritage Park alive. This town has already lost numerous historic buildings because there was no one or no money to save them. The railroad and the railroad workers who build this town so many years ago are long gone. But the history of those who built it, the background roots of the area and what it used to be like does not have to be lost. That’s what the Heritage Park group is trying to do. Save and savor this town’s roots. So when somebody deliberately damages things that have been preserved, it’s time for fightin’ words. In my book it would be good if the culprits are caught and no matter what their age, they should be made to clean up, fix up and repair anything they broke or destroyed. And if necessary they should be made to work to earn the cost of fixing anything that’s beyond their ability.

Budstock committee wants your memories, your pictures …

The Heritage Park Budstock committee is looking for fond and or funny memories of the good times with Bud & The Dynamics since their origin in 1965. The band is celebrating its 50th year of togetherness this year and the Heritage Park Group is organizing a birthday/anniversary celebration for them. It will be free and everyone is invited. The committee is preparing for a big Budstock Renovo Jam at Heritage Park on August 29. Soo, if the Dynamics played at your wedding, your anniversary, your high school prom private party and if you have pictures of them during Flaming Foliage festivals from the past, would you be willing to share them – the committee can copy them and return them – for the Budstock celebration. The committee would also like to hear anecdotes involving the band. If you can help the committee in any way, please call me at 570-923-2927 or email me at mastriania@comcast.net

A free rendition of The Green Grass of Home …

When Bud & The Dynamics appear at Renovo gigs, one of their most requested songs is The Green, Green Grass of Home. The band is looking for a special fan to give them a copy of their CD with the song on it. The special fan was at the St. Joseph’s Festival a couple of weeks ago. Their most recent request for Green, Green Grass of Home was from a man requested the song for his wife, whose favorite song by the band is Green, Green Grass of Home. She was so moved by the song when the band did it at the festival that it brought tears to her eyes. The band now wants to thank that lady with a copy of their CD. The fan is welcome to contact either band leader Bud Hallberg at 570-923-1915 or Gary Eberhard at 570-660-4176. The CD can be picked up at The Record.

The Reptile man wanted to hear more …

Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but we heard that Patrick Rein, of the Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland told Chapman officials he enjoyed Bud & The Dynamics music Saturday during the picnic so much he hated to leave, but he was due to be at another appointment so he had to leave before the band was done playing.
