LOGANTON- Sugar Valley has a new skipper in Mike Toner. The Phoenix will be looking to improve on their 2 wins from a season ago, but a loss of 7 seniors to graduation will make things rough for the first year coach.
Lance Winchester and Cayden Weaver, Sugar Valley’s top two pitchers are both gone. So is Winchester’s .500 average from a season ago.
Lincoln Breon, who hit .453 last season and Bryer Martin, a .415 hitter are both back for the Phoenix. Veteran Jarren McCloskey is also back for his senior season. Layden Bryan, Grayson Hastings and Dakota Jodun are also among returnees that seen time a season ago.
Coach Toner expressed that freshman newcomers Brody Swanger, Bentley Andrus and Tobias Conoway could all make impacts for the Phoenix.
They will need all the help they can get in a tough conference that features defending District IV 1A champions Millville, Benton, Sullivan County, Northwest, Muncy, St. John Neumann, conference favorities Montgomery, Columbia Montour VoTech and Clinton County rival Bucktail.
Sugar Valley two wins came over the Bucks a season ago. The two are set to meet first on March 28 in Farwell, before they meet again at Taggert Park on April 29.
