D.A.R. To Celebrate Women’s History Month in March

LOCK HAVEN –  Women’s History Month will be celebrated at the Tuesday, March 18, 2025 meeting of the Colonel Hugh White-Colonel John Chatham Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) to be held at 1:00 pm in the third floor Rebecca Gross room at the Annie Halenbake Ross Library, 232 West Main Street, Lock Haven.

Area residents are cordially invited to attend the meeting which is open to the public and free of charge.

To commemorate Women’s History Month, Clinton County resident Loretta Coltrane, whose hobby is researching women’s history, will speak about “Women Who Influenced and Made History in Clinton County.”

Coltrane’s presentation will focus on Clinton County women leaders, pioneers in professions, early women’s organizations to include the Women’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) and Lock Haven Civic Club.

Coltrane will also discuss factors that influenced the rise of the Women’s Movement, notable Clinton County Suffragettes, and the ratification of the 19th Amendment that gave American women the right to vote in 1920, one hundred and five years ago.

An exhibit including photographs, news clippings, and information about Clinton County women leaders and historical influencers, and the Women’s Suffrage Movement will be on display.

D.A.R., Daughters of the American Revolution, is open for membership to women ages 18 + who can prove ancestry of a Revolutionary War patriot in their family tree. The local D.A.R. will assist prospective members to research and document proof about ancestors who were active supporters or veterans of the American Revolutionary War.
