Central Mountain Boys and Girls Swim Teams Shine at District 6 Championships

STATE COLLEGE – The Central Mountain boys and girls swim teams delivered standout performances at the 2025 PIAA District 6 Championships, held at Penn State’s McCoy Natatorium. Both teams finished as district runners-up behind a strong State College squad, with the boys recording 17 individual personal records (PRs) and three relay PRs, while the girls posted 12 PRs over the two-day meet.

Boys Team Highlights

 The Boys meet on Friday started with the 200 Medley Relay.  Neil Kaluzny, Jonathan Hughes, Cory Matejovich, and Raiden Newcomer dropped 1.20 seconds and finished 3rd in 1:48.12.  Holden Long swam a PR in the 200 Free (2:08.59) finishing 5th.  Rhys Swift PR’d in the 200 IM (2:19.08) and finished 4th.  In the 50 Free, Raiden Newcomer was the highest finisher for the Wildcats placing 4th with a PR of 24.94.  Bryce Warren finished 6th (25.65) and Brayden Packer finished 7th (26.00) which was a new PR.  In the 100 Fly, Jonathan Hughes (55.43), Corey Matejovich (1:02.30), and Brody Rhine (1:09.09) finished 4th, 6th, & 8th, all personal best times.  In the final race on Day 1, The Wildcat team of Neil Kaluzny, Rhys Swift, Che McAllister, and Bryce Warren dropped a time of 1:40.72 to finish 3rd.

Day 2 started with the 100 Free.  Neil Kaluzny finished in the 5th spot with a new PR of 54.39.  Owen Wunder finished 7th with a PR of 55.68.  Raiden Newcomer come home 8th in 56.84 and Che McAllister was 9th with a PR of 57.69.  Rhys Swift PR’d in the 500 Free finishing 5th in 5:25.31.  In the 100 Back, Neil Kaluzny (1:03.95), Cory Matejovich (1:04.66), Owen Wunder (1:05.09, and Jacob Rembold (1:12.02) finished 4-7.  Kaluzny and Matejovich swam personal bests.  In the 100 Breaststroke, Jonathan Hughes battled Holidaysburg’s Kaden Henderson all the way to the end finishing 2nd with a new school record time of 59.19.  Bryce Warren finished 8th (1:13.90), Brody Rhine was 9th (1:14.23), and Che McAllister was 10th (1:16.36).  All 3 Wildcats swam personal best times.  In the final event, the 400 Free Relay of Newcomer, Matejovich, Wunder, and Hughes finished 2nd in 3:38.97.

Girls Team Highlights

On Friday, swimming got started with the 200 Medley Relay.  Sloane Coakley, Erin Packer, Lily McWilliams, and Kaylie McCloskey finished 2nd in 2:11.22.  In the 200 Free, Anna Stahl (2:14.90), Lily McWilliams (2:16.01), and Sloane Coakley (2:20.69) finished 5th – 7th respectively with Williams hitting a new PR in the event.  In the 50 Free, Camryn Bair finished 2nd (24.32), Sloane Coakley was 3rd with a PR (28.52), Kaylie McCloskey was 8th with a PR (28.62), and Evelyn Albright was 9th with a PR (29.08).  Bair’s 50 Free time will most likely qualify for the state meet.  In the 100 Fly, Gabriella Hosley hit a new PR of 1:02.67 to finish 3rd.  Evelyn Albright finished 7th in 1:15.61.  In the final event of Day 1, the 200 Free Relay of Camryn Bair, Anna Stahl, Abrianna Hosley, and Gabriella Hosley swam a seasons best time of 1:44.90 finishing 2nd.

Day 2 started with the 100 Free where Anna Stahl finished 6th (1:00.35) and Kaylie McCloskey finished 7th (1:02.50), both new PR’s.  Abrianna Hosley led the way for the Wildcats in the 500 Free finishing 4th in 5:36.06.  Lily McWilliams (6:13.21) and Erin Packer (6:15.26) finished 5th and 6th, both new PR’s.  Hosley followed the 500 Free up with a 4th place finish in the 100 Back in 1:05.09.  Zoe McElroy dropped 3.61 seconds to finish 6th in the 100 Back in 1:11.23.  In the 100 Breaststroke, Camryn Bair (1:04.86) and Gabriella Hosley (1:10.89) finished 2nd and 3rd respectively, both PR’s.  That time for Bair is a new school record and will most likely qualify her for the state meet.  In the final event, the 400 Free Relay team of Bair, Stahl, Hosley, and Hosley finished 2nd in a time of 3:54.20.  The PIAA State Championships will be held at Bucknell University on March 14-15.
