Lady Wildcats Rout Shamokin

cm-softballCOAL TOWNSHIP — Conditions at Shamokin High School were not the best on Thursday, but the Central Mountain softball team shook off the blustery day and romped to a 10-1 win over the host Indians.

The game served as a tune-up for the Lady Wildcats’ annual Thunder on the Mountain tournament all day Saturday, CM opening with Mifflin County at 9:30 a.m., DuBois playing Hemfield in the other semifinal at 11:45 a.m. The consolation final is set for 2 p.m., the championship game at 4 p.m.

Junior Madison Brown got the call in the circle against Shamokin and responded with a complete-game 6-hitter.

Freshman Josie Dershem returned after missing the previous game with an injury and again made her presence felt, going 3-for-4, including an inside-the-park homerun, also scoring two runs and stealing one base. Mariah Major went 2-for-3 with a triple and Kim Coder added a 2-for-4 day with a double.

The win put Central Mountain at 6-2 entering its Thunder tourney Saturday. After that event the Lady Wildcats will be back in action next Monday hosting Midd-West.
