McCLOSKEY ADVANCES TO SEMI’S FOR PHOENIX

BLOOMSBURG- The Sugar Valley Rural Charter School senior Jarren McCloskey was the only Phoenix wrestler to advance into the championship semifinals of the Don Klingerman Tournament at Bloomsburg High School. McCloskey went 2-0 on the day and will face number one seeded Mason Whitney of Abington Heights.
The Phoenix have four wrestlers still alive in the consolations, as sophomores Hunter Berry (114), Leroy Culvey (114), Logan Leland (172) and senior Koda Mincer (285) won consolation bouts to remain alive after falling in their championship round bouts. Berry and Mincer both had two wins on the night.
The Phoenix of Head Coach Jason Bilbay saw sophomore Taylor Cantolina (121), Junior Wyatt Conoway (145), senior Connor Ohl (160) and senior Branden Galentine (215) all lost both of their bouts and were eliminated from the tournament.
The tournament finds eight teams tied for first place as Brockway, Carlisle, Crestwood, Honesdale, Hughesville, Pine Grove, Sullivan County and Warrior Run all have 13 points apiece after the first day. Warrior Run has the most semifinalists with six, while Carlisle has five and both Crestwood and Honesdale each have four. The Phoenix are currently in 21st place ofmthe 24 team tournament with 10.5 points.
