LHU Women’s Basketball cruises by Clarion in PSAC East vs. West clash
LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven women’s basketball team used a dominant second and third quarter to soar to a convincing 79-54 victory over Clarion in a battle of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East vs. West on Friday afternoon, Dec. 6.
Lock Haven improves to 4-1 at home and has now won five of its last six games to improve to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC. Clarion falls to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in conference.
Lock Haven held the advantage in all four quarters, but it was the stretch over the second and third quarter that proved to be the difference.
The Haven built a 40-29 lead heading into the break and extended its advantage to 18 points through the opening five minutes of the third period by not allowing a single Clarion field goal during that frame.
The Bald Eagles limited Clarion to 13 percent (3-of-33) shooting in the third, while The Haven shot 57 percent (8-of-14) to extend the lead to over 20 and put the game out of reach.
The Haven continued its run of dominant play inside the paint and led again in paint-points, 46-28. The Bald Eagles also forced 20 turnovers and converted that into a game-high 24 points, while also holding a 17-8 advantage on the fast break.
Lock Haven was lights out from the charity stripe and finished 18-of-19 in the game.
Madeline Evans capped off her heroic week with another monster performance inside, as the sophomore finished with 17 points and a game-high 19 rebounds. Evans, who pulled in a career-high 24 rebounds on Wednesday, finished the week with 43 rebounds over the two Bald Eagles’ victory.
Alana Robinson led the offense with 30 points, while adding three assists, a block and a steal.
Kiera Baughman finished with 17 points and three assists, while Jenadia Jordan added 14 point and eight rebounds.
