Lock Haven Alum Transforms Downtown with New Electrical Box Wraps

By Christopher Miller

LOCK HAVEN – Like the leaves in fall, change throughout downtown Lock Haven has been abundant since Friday morning.

Two more electrical boxes were wrapped by Sean Flanagan of Always A Good Sign, located in West Berlin, New Jersey. Flanagan, a Lock Haven University alumni and former college soccer player, returned to his alma mater for a second time to install the latest historic Lock Haven-themed wrapped panels.

“This was a really great idea and I am very excited that I am able to give back to my college alma mater town and still be involved in Lock Haven,” Flanagan told The Record on Friday morning.

The new wrapped panels, located at the corner of Grove and East Water Street and then again the intersection of Church Street, Bellefonte Avenue, and East Church Street, depict historic scenes, people, and places of Lock Haven.

The panel along East Water Street depicts scenes of the floods, Salona-born artist Annie Snyder, and Levi Mackey, Lock Haven’s first mayor. The amphitheater is also depicted, along with the Fallon Hotel and Lock Haven YMCA.

The panel at the intersection of Bellefonte Avenue and East Church Street honors World War I and World War II and some of the few women who served from the area.

The wraps, made of a stretchy vinyl material and laminated for UV protection, require a skilled hand to be applied to the electrical boxes.

“We can’t do this application in temperatures under 60 degrees,” Sean said. “And there are many cuts that have to be done in order for it to stretch and lay correctly with all of the panels on the boxes.”

The electrical boxes are an ongoing project with the possibility of more wrapped electrical boxes to come in the future.
