Optimist’s Roundtable

By Martha Sykes

There are so many events to pray for around our world, including so many things that remind us about our faith and how important it is in our lives. In the book of James, he talks a lot about our faith. In fact, James says in chapter 2,

“What good is it if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds?”

As children of God, we are to reach out to everyone, no matter who they are, and we are to reach out in love and pray for those who need to know God. Times that we live in now sure do remind us that our world needs God more than ever.

All around us are reasons to pray for healing, whether it is someone going through cancer, or people recovering from a terrible accident, or a friend going through grief, or for our community . Our faith matters and it certainly gets tested with all the evil that we see on a daily basis.

Events happen and they can have an effect on all of us!! They make us think, and they make us question. They make us try to defend who we are and what we believe.

Things that happen reveal our strengths and our weaknesses in the midst of all that happens. That’s why we are able, as God‘s followers, to pray for those we’ve never met and also, we are, as His followers able to love like Him. Because of His love, if we reflect that love, we are able to deal with whatever comes our way and then share that faith with those around us.

James also tells us to be “ Doers of the word and not hearers only”. Things we do with a heart of love are ways to let our light shine for Jesus.

This past weekend, I was witness to a room full of people who cared about a young man and his family as he is going through a tough time. It was amazing to see the show of support for his situation and it touched that family’s hearts to know so many cared!! These are the things that make a difference in our world and that prove that faith matters! This family has faith and God has a plan!! Keep praying for healing for those who need it.
