Central Mountain Volleyball Aims for PHAC and District Titles
MILL HALL-As the 2024 season approaches, the Central Mountain volleyball team is setting its sights on a successful year, with goals to win the PHAC, secure a district title, and play deep into November. With a roster of 14 players, including five returning starters, the Wildcats are well-positioned to achieve these ambitions.
The team is led by a core group of experienced players, with Katelyn Bowman, Payton Kinley, Reese Walizer, and Sophia Hardy all entering their third year as starters. Cora Myers and Kylie Rauch return as second-year starters, providing additional stability. Newcomers Gabby Beaubrun and Lily Downing are also expected to make significant contributions.
“The focus is always on serving at a very high success rate and being able to pass the ball well in order to dictate our offensive play and keep balls in play,” said Coach Chipp McCann. “If we’re able to do those two things, we should have a very successful season.”
Despite the team’s experience, leadership is still evolving. “At this point, we are still trying to figure out who the leaders are going to be. We have a great group of girls, but we are in need of some of them to step in and lead,” McCann noted.
The Wildcats’ strengths lie in their experience, offensive depth, and scrappy defense. Key matches this season include contests against Penns Valley, Bald Eagle Area (BEA), Dubois, Berwick, West Branch, and league rival Williamsport.
Coaching duties will be handled by McCann for the varsity team, with Kat Bates coaching the junior varsity.
With the community’s support, the Wildcats are ready to take on the challenges ahead and aim for a season filled with excitement and success.
