PSU’s Warren Lands On Mackey Award Watch List

UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State senior tight end Tyler Warren was tabbed to the Mackey Award Watch List on Thursday.

The John Mackey Award is presented annually to the top tight end in college football.

Has appeared in 40 career games, making 15 starts.
Earned third-team All-Big Ten honors from the coaches and honorable mention from the media in 2023.
Named Academic All-Big Ten.
Garnered Penn State’s Keystone Award, sharing the honor with Abdul Carter, Theo Johnson and Kevin Winston Jr.
Was the Bob Mitinger Memorial Award winner for being an ultimate teammate.
Has made 49 career receptions for 606 yards and 11 touchdowns, while adding two rushing scores.
Has seven career receptions of 20+ yards.
Owns 11 career touchdown receptions, tied for 18th all-time at Penn State and tied-fourth among PSU tight ends.
Posted 34 receptions for 422 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
Tied-first in the Big Ten and tied-third in the nation among tight ends with seven touchdown receptions. His 422 yards were fourth-most among Big Ten tight ends.

According to Coaches By The Numbers, was tied for seventh nationally among tight ends in red zone catches (9).
Combined with Theo Johnson and Khalil Dinkins for 16 receiving touchdowns by tight ends, the most in the nation during the 2023 season.
Penn State was the only FBS team with multiple tight ends owning 7+ receiving touchdowns in 2023.
Hauled in a career-high six receptions, including a 2-yard touchdown, against Delaware and caught an 11-yard touchdown at Illinois.
Made in a pair of touchdowns grabs against Iowa with 2-yard and 7-yard catches in the third quarter.
Against UMass, scored on a 7-yard touchdown catch.
At Maryland, caught four passes for 51 yards and an 8-yard score.
Added an 8-yard touchdown grab at Michigan State.
Made five receptions for a career-high 127 yards, tallying his first career 100-yard game. Hauled in a career-long 75-yard reception in the first quarter and added a 22-yard reception in the fourth quarter.

The John Mackey Award is named after NFL Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey, who played 10 years in the NFL and was selected for the Pro Bowl five times. Mackey was a three-time All-NFL honoree and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team and the league’s 50th Anniversary team. He played in two NFL Championship Games and two Super Bowls, leading the Baltimore Colts to a win in Super Bowl V.

The John Mackey Award selection committee will reveal its eight semifinalists on Tuesday, October 29 and its three finalists on Tuesday, November 26.

The winner will be announced live during the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN on December 12, 2024.
