Optimist’s Roundtable

By Martha Sykes

Have you ever been so full of joy or so relieved about something that your heart is full of a song and you just burst out the words?

Well, back in the book of Exodus, the children of Israel were being delivered out of Egypt after over 400 years. As they were led out though, they encountered trouble as the pharaoh and his chariots were chasing them.

Then the Lord miraculously saved them as He parted the sea and they were saved. And they were so relieved to be alive. Chapter 15 in the Old Testament book of Exodus is that kind of song as they realized they were not alone.

Exodus 15:13 says, “ With your unfailing love you lead the people you have redeemed. In your might, you guide them to your sacred home”.

This verse provides the Israelite with a new understanding of their Lord. At this time, He not only redeemed them, but He is leading them as it says in this verse.

A message for us in this verse is that we also can rejoice in being freed, and every day, Jesus offers to lead us as well. Just as this reminded the people of Israel that He was leading them to their sacred home, it reminds us that Jesus is also leading us to be in our new home with Him.

As much as it hurts when we lose a loved one, or a friend as they leave this earth to go to their Heavenly home, we can rejoice that they have been called to a new home. Each person that goes to his or her eternal home is just a reminder that Jesus leads every one of us to our ultimate home.
