Keystone Advances with 8-6 Victory Over Rhode Island in East Regional Tournament
DOVER, DE – The Keystone Intermediates continue battling along in the bracket in Dover, Delaware, at the 50/70 East Regional Tournament, securing a solid 8-6 victory over Rhode Island on Sunday morning.
Rhode Island got things going in the top of the first, scoring 3 runs. Keystone answered with 3 runs of their own. Keystone started early with a home run from Evan Edwards, followed by a home run by Hayden Hanley. Camden Fuller singled with a hard ground ball to left field. Fuller then stole second base, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored, tying the game at 3-3.
In the second inning, Keystone drew three walks that loaded the bases, and on a pitcher error, Bryan Rote scored, giving Keystone the go-ahead run at 4-3.
Rhode Island scored one run in the top of the third. In the bottom of the third, Hanley singled on a ground ball to center field and after advancing the bases on a passed ball scores on a ground out by Evan Batterson. Then Logan Bower and Carter Frank received walks. Bryan Rote hit a home run with a line drive to right field, allowing Keystone to add 3 runs, leading 8-4.
Both teams didn’t score any runs in the fifth inning. Rhode Island tried to rally back in the sixth, scoring two runs, but after a scoreless top of the seventh, Keystone secured the win, 8-6.
Camden Fuller started on the mound for Keystone, followed by Logan Bower. Combined, they allowed 4 runs on two hits, walking five and striking out five. Hayden Hanley came in and pitched 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on three hits and striking out five.
Keystone batters performed well, with Rote, Edwards, and Hanley each hitting home runs. Camden Fuller had two hits on the day, as did Hanley.
With the win, Keystone continues to move through the bracket and will take on New Jersey on Monday at 9 a.m.
