Renovo Borough Secures Grant for Vital Road Renovation Project

By Autumn Gavlock

RENOVO – Renovo Borough is set to embark on a significant road improvement project thanks to a generous $133,000 Community Development Block Grant. The project, which will focus on rehabilitating Laurel Street from the Memorial Park arch to the park itself, comes with a price tag of $85,361.

Laurel Street, a vital route primarily utilized for youth baseball games and tournaments during the spring and summer seasons, will undergo a much-needed transformation. The renovation will enhance the safety and accessibility of this single lane road.

Following a thorough bidding process, Charles Construction secured the project with their competitive bid of $85,361.16, granting them the authority to initiate the work. The project entails a complete overhaul, including a rebase, wearing course, and topcoat, ensuring a high-quality increase in durability and longevity. However, the ultimate go-ahead hinges on a preconstruction meeting and the determination of a commence date.

During a discussion with Ann Tarantella, President of the Renovo Borough Council, The Record sought her perspective on the project. Ann conveyed her excitement, affirming, “We’re excited to see this project come to life and expect it to benefit our residents and those who visit the baseball fields in the spring and summer.” She added, “Together, we embark on this road rehabilitation effort, united in our dedication to improving Renovo Borough and the well-being of all who call it home.”

With the aim of finishing the project by early September, the community is eagerly awaiting the positive changes it will bring to local facilities and recreational activities. An announcement regarding the start date of the project will be made in the coming weeks, with the undertaking set to promptly follow.
