For the Record – March 5, 2015

You Rock Veterans …

Last week we learned that WWII Veteran John Curcio of North Bend was to receive a Legion of Honor award from the French for his service in the liberation of France during WWII. Curcio was proud of the award but when we interviewed him, he said he didn’t think he’d be able to drive to D.C. for the presentation. Local heroes came to his rescue.

The award was presented in Washington yesterday and as this article is being written Tuesday night, our information is that Curcio was to be in D.C. to receive his award in person. Roy Cowfer of the VFW Benefits Center and his sister, Kathy Harmon of Haneyville were to drive John to D.C. The two are John’s niece and nephew. The trip was being financed by Sudsy Pup of Renovo and the American Legion and the VFW of Renovo, Dave Bower and Cowfer of Renovo and the VFW Benefits Center.

Last week’s edition of The Record was in many locations by Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. It wasn’t long before the wheels began spinning to get Curcio to Washington. Mr. Cowfer said when he saw the article that John’s award, he went to see his uncle and told him he was going to D.C.

Audie Murphy, an American hero, actor, song writer and poet is among the Americans who have received the French Legion of Honor award, according to an article on the internet. Murphy is one of the most decorated combat soldiers in US history.

This Winter has to go! ...

Rumor has, not a clue if it’s true, but we’re hearing that winter has been outlawed in the Renovo area by a group of citizens who’ve been meeting secretly somewhere in the hills of South Renovo. The rumor is that the first thing this group, whom we heard are calling themselves DWS (Down With Snowflakes) want to do is get rid of snowflakes, snowmen, snow-women, anything that is related to snow. Snowflakes on banners included. Seems to me, we should all get behind this group. Problem is we can’t find them – they’re hidden under snow drifts or behind snow mounds.

One Lane travel …

Yours truly, at 10:40 Tuesday evening, just saw an item and photos posted on FaceBook that show Route 120 traffic was limited to one lane in areas where snow slides were completely blocking on lane.

Bring on spring …

Need we say more? It’s definitely time bring on spring. Summer too for that matter. Rumor has it that this summer this area could make history of the Woodstock sort. The rumor is that a Budstock is in.

The planning to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bud & The Dnynamics. We’re not privy to many details as of yet, but we’re trying. We hear there is interest from other bands to join in the celebration. Budstock by the way will be a whole lot tamer than Woodstock was. And hopefully, without the rain and mud.
