LHU Women’s Track & Field caps busy two days of action

LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven women’s outdoor track & field team capped a busy two days of competition as the Bald Eagles competed at the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary on Friday and Saturday, April 5-6, and The Haven women also sent a group to compete today (Saturday, April 6) at Susquehanna’s Jim Taylor Invitational.

Colonial Relays Recap:

Action at the Colonial Relays got underway for The Haven women on Friday, and it was a number of notable individual efforts that headlined the weekend-opening performance.

Aubrey Sechrist (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) led the way with a strong outing at 800 meters. She ran an impressive 2:18.80 and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying mark helped her finish seventh of 37.

Elaina Klinger (Danville, Pa./Danville) and Gwen Lloyd (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) turned in PSAC marks in the 5,000-meter run – among a deep and talented field – as both are finding their form in their return to action early this outdoor season. Klinger ran 18:12.19 and Lloyd ran 18:25.78.

Hunter Barger (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) and Natalie Gentzel (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) ran well at 400 meters (1:00.64) and in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.51), respectively.

Throwers Julia Beck (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) and Alyssa VanGorder (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) rounded out Friday’s action with marks of 135-00.74 (4th) and 130-07.5 (6th) in the hammer throw.

On Saturday (April 6), Reagan Irons (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) led the way with victory in the high jump. She hit a PSAC mark of 5-04.00 and bested the 17-person field.

Samantha Trench (Brick, N.J./Ocean Township) tied for eighth in the high jump (4-11.00).

In the discus throw, Mallory Eck (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) was fourth with a mark of 120-01.5, and Clarissa Davis (York, Pa./Central York) placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 36-03.75.

Rounding out the strong two days at the Colonial Relays was a pair of notable relay efforts today. The Bald Eagles finished fourth in the sprint medley relay with a time of 4:16.19, an all-time top-10 Lock Haven effort.

The Haven women placed 10th in the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:50.23.

Several Bald Eagles also competed today (Saturday, April 6) at Susquehanna and leading the way was Paige Daugherty (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) who finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run.

Up Next for Lock Haven:

The Bald Eagles will be back in action at the Susquehanna River Hawk Multi and Invite (Thurs. – Sat., April 11-13), and Lock Haven will also be in action at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic (Sat. & Sun., April 13-14).
