LHU Baseball drops home twinbill vs. West Chester

LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven baseball team (6-15, 3-7 PSAC East) fell twice to West Chester, 9-4 and 10-3, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East doubleheader on Friday afternoon (March 22) at Watkins Field.

Game 1: West Chester 9, Lock Haven 4

In game one, West Chester opened a 4-0 lead through two innings, but Lock Haven cut the early deficit to one, 4-3, with a three-run bottom of the third.

Zachary McEllroy (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and Greg Cristino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) picked up RBIs during the rally. McEllroy drove in a pair of runs with a triple.

However, West Chester scored five runs – four in the seventh – while limiting Lock Haven to just one more score over the final four innings to steal the victory.

Joseph DeSiena (Jacksonville, Fla./Atlantic Coast) walked in a run to round out the Bald Eagles scoring.

McEllroy finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Cristino went 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead the way for Lock Haven, who finished with eight hits as a team.

Game 2 Recap: West Chester 10, Lock Haven 3 (6 Innings, Darkness)

Lock Haven kicked off the scoring in the nightcap after a successful double-steal by Francisco Taveras (Muhlenberg, Pa./Muhlenberg) and Cristino allowed Traveras to swipe home.

However, West Chester erased the Lock Haven advantage with two runs in the second inning, before adding a solo run in the third to go on top, 3-1.

Lock Haven quickly knotted the score at 3-3 during the ensuing at-bats thanks to RBIs by Cristino and McMillan.

After a scoreless fourth inning, West Chester put up one run in the fifth, before erupting for six runs in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

The game was called complete after six-full innings due to darkness.

Cristino and McMillan drove in runs and Lance Baldensperger (Warren, Pa./Warren) doubled to lead Lock Haven.
