LHU Women’s Track & Field opens 2024 outdoor season

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Lock Haven women’s track and field team opened the 2024 season with a busy three-days (Thurs. – Sat., March 14-16) of competition in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at the 2024 Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, and the Bald Eagles recorded a number of notable individual efforts.

Leading the way was Liberty Gearinger (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) who hit a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying marks today (Saturday, March 16). She ran 58.57 in the 400-meter dash which was good enough for seventh overall and it was a PSAC mark. Gearinger followed that up with a PSAC mark in the 200-meter dash as she ran 25.60.

At 800 meters, Aubrey Sechrist (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) finished fourth overall with a PSAC qualifying time of 2:18.73.

Mallory Eck (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) hit a PSAC mark in the discus throw as her mark of 126-02 cracked the top-10 (9th).

Paige Daugherty (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) opened Saturday’s action with a solid run of 12:08.36 at 3,000 meters.

On Friday (March 15), Megan Mudget (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) led the way in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:11.56.

Throwers Julia Beck (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) and Alyssa VanGorder (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) hit marks of 144-09 and 138-09, respectively in the hammer throw, held Friday as well.

Up Next for Lock Haven:

The Bald Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, March 27 and Thursday, March 28 when they take part in the two-day Midweek Tri-Meet. Wednesday’s action will be held at Bloomsburg and Thursday’s action will be held at home in The Haven.
