Green, Fantaski and Gavlock get one last shot at “Friday Night Lights”

By Bees O’Brien

BROCKWAY- Johnny Green, Braylon Fantaski and Daniel Gavlock will get one more chance to represent Bucktail under the “Friday Night Lights” on June 28 when they will play in the 9th Annual Frank Varischetti All-Star Game in Brockway. The game pits the best in the D9 League against one another for one last high school game. Only seniors are eligible for the game.

The Frank Varischetti Foundation puts on the event and plenty of scholarship money is awarded to participants in the North vs. South contest.

Bucktail, who is the only school that is not a District 9 member plays for the North squad. The Bucks are allowed to participate in the game due to their membership as a D9 League Region 3 team.

Green, a two-time D9 League first team selection anchored down both the offensive and defensive lines for Bucktail and played in every game this season for an offense that rushed for over 3,000 yards.

Fantaski was one of those dangerous backs that helped Bucktail set the stage on the ground and lead them to a playoff berth. Fantaski, like Green was a two-time Region 3 selection.

Gavlock was a defensive force for Bucktail early on in the season, but a season ending injury appeared to be the end of his scholastic career, until the Varischetti All-star game came calling.

The other North squad schools include Bradford, Brockway, Cameron County, Region 3 two-time champions Coudersport, Elk County Catholic, Kane, Otto-Eldred, Port Allegany, Ridgeway, Sheffield, Smethport and St. Mary’s

The only other North team member announced at this time is Sheffield wideout Dylan Hardwick.

The South squad consists of players from Brookville, Central Clarion, DuBois, Karns City, Keystone, Moniteau, Punxsutawney, Redbank Valley and Union/AC Valley.

Full rosters and ticket purchasing information will be released sometime in May.
