Hughes Breaks Record – Wildcats Boys Swimming With 4th Place Finish

WILLIAMSPORT-The Central Mountain boys swim team competed in the 2024 Williamsport Coaches Invitational at Williamsport High School.  The Wildcats performed well finishing 4th out of 14 teams with 214 points.  Williamsport took the top spot with 340 points.

Junior Jonathan Hughes had an exceptional day in the water for the Wildcats.  Probably the most anticipated race of the day was the 100 Breaststroke where 4 swimmers entered with very similar seed times.  It was a battle right down to the last stroke.  Hughes had a career best swim re-breaking his school record set last year in 1:00.98 to finish 3rd.

Evan Summer from Williamsport was 1st in 59.34 followed by Chase Moore of Bloomsburg in 59.92.  Hughes also swam the 200 IM and dropped 7.12 seconds to finish 4th in 2:06.63.  In the 200 Free, Cory Matejovich swam to a PR of 2:09.85 and qualified for Districts.

In the 500 Free, Sophomore Ryhs Swift would swim to a 2nd place finish in 5:50.16.  The 200 Free Relay of Cory Matejovich, Neil Kaluzny, Raiden Newcomer, and Jonathan Hughes dropped almost 5 seconds to finish 3rd in 1:38.97.

The Wildcats are home on Wednesday for their last meet of the regular season against Williamsport at LHU starting at 4:30.
