LHU Men’s Wrestling falls to Navy Friday night
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 22 Lock Haven men’s wrestling team fell to host Navy (7-5), 33-9, tonight (Friday, Feb. 2) on the road in a non-conference dual.
For the Bald Eagles (6-9), it marked their second consecutive night of action. The Haven downed rival Clarion, 25-16, last night at home in Mid-American Conference (MAC) action.
Lucas Kapusta (Jeanette, Pa./Hempfield Area), Colin Fegley (Mahanoy, Pa./Mahanoy) and Gable Strickland (Benton, Pa./Benton) provided Lock Haven with victories tonight in Annapolis.
All three secured signature wins.
Kapusta, a true-freshman, made his official Lock Haven dual debut tonight and it was a memorable one. Tonight’s match started at 149 pounds and Kapusta quickly went to work on a dominating, 10-3, win over Kaemen Smith. For Kapusta, the big difference was a pair of takedowns and the win put Lock Haven up 3-0 early.
Fegley’s win came by way of the upset-variety as he upset No. 33 David Key, 5-2, at 184. The Bald Eagle scored an early first-period takedown and it paved the way to victory. For Fegley, it marked the second huge win of the weekend. Last night, he bumped up from 184 to 197 pounds and his tech fall helped power Lock Haven to victory over Clarion.
Strickland rounded out The Haven winners tonight. Ranked No. 28, Strickland secured a win in a bout that featured a pair of nationally-ranked 133 pounders as he knocked off No. 28 Brendan Ferretti, 4-2, for a statement win. An early takedown proved to be a major moment in the win for Strickland.
The Bald Eagles will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 10 when they head to Northern Illinois for a MAC dual. The match is slated for an 8 p.m. EST (7 p.m. CDT) start.
