LHU Men’s Basketball falls at Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE – The Lock Haven men’s basketball team dominated the second half to nearly pull off the come-from-behind victory on the road, but the first-half deficit proved to be too much as Wilmington University of Delaware held on for an 86-80 non-conference victory on Saturday (Dec. 9).

With the loss, the Bald Eagles fall to 3-4 overall, while Wilmington (Del.) improves to 5-4 on the season.

The Haven outscored the Wildcats 45-38 in the second half, but Wilmington was able to hold on thanks to a 13-point (48-35) advantage in the first half.

Wilmington led by as much as 12 in the second half, but the Bald Eagles cut the deficit to two scores (84-80) with 32 seconds to go. However, the Wildcats knocked down a pair of free throws on the ensuing possession before draining the time remaining.

By the numbers, the Wildcats (56 percent) outshot the Bald Eagles (45 percent), while leading 46-38 in points in the paint and 9-5 in fast-break points.

The Haven finished with an advantage in second-chance points (19-13), while leading 15-8 in offensive rebounds.

Each team knocked down seven shots from behind the arch, but the Wildcats netted four more field goals than the Bald Eagles.

Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) had his best game in the crimson and white, notching an impressive 19-point, 16-rebound performance, adding two blocks and a steal.

Justice Shoats (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) poured in 16 points, while going a perfect 5-of-5 at the charity stripe.

Jalen Gorham (York, Pa./MacDuffie School) and Isaiah Stewert (Madison, Wis.) pitched in 12 and 11 points, respectively, to round out the Bald Eagles’ starters in double figures.

Collin Jones (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) led the second unit with 13 points.
