PSU’s Fashanu Named Walter Camp First-Team All-American
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – Penn State offensive tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu was tabbed a first-team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation on Friday. Fashanu is the 102nd first-team All-American in school history and the first, first-team selection since linebacker Micah Parsons in 2019. He is Penn State’s 15th All-American selection in the James Franklin era.
He earned first-team All-America accolades for the first time in his career after collecting second-team honors from the Walter Camp Football Foundation in 2022. The junior is the first Nittany Lion to earn Walter Camp first-team All-America honors since Jeff Hartings (1994 and 1995).
He is Penn State’s first offensive lineman to be selected first-team All-America by an NCAA-recognized outlet since Stefan Wisniewski in 2010 (AFCA). Fashanu is Penn State’s first offensive lineman to earn All-America honors in back-to-back seasons since Levi Brown was a second-team selection in 2005 and 2006.
On November 29, Fashanu was voted Rimington-Pace Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year. Fashanu garnered first-team All-Big Ten honors from the coaches and media. The 2023 team captain was also a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy and was a semifinalist for the Lombardi Award.
This season, Fashanu has allowed no sacks and 11 pressures in 382 pass blocking snaps. He has made 22 career starts at left tackle.
Led by Fashanu, the Penn State offense ranks fourth in the country in red zone conversion percentage (95.1), 14th in scoring offense (37.2), 26th in rushing offense (186.7; 1st in Big Ten), while holding 10th in time of possession (33:02). PSU has tallied a Big Ten-best 271 first downs.
Penn State has posted 50+ points three times and 40+ points five times this season.The Nittany Lions have tallied at least 400 total yards in five games, including a season-high 586 yards at Michigan State.
No. 10 Penn State is set to make it first appearance in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl when the Nittany Lions take on No. 11 Ole Miss on Saturday, December 30. Kickoff is set for noon on ESPN at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Penn State finished the regular season with a 42-0 win at Michigan State to improve to 10-2 overall and 7-2 in Big Ten action. The Nittany Lions reached 10 wins in a season for the 26th time and reached 10 wins in the regular season for the 21st time. In addition, Penn State reached 10 wins for the fifth time since 2016.
Penn State is one of 11 FBS teams with at least 10 wins in at least five of the last eight seasons, joining Alabama (8), Boise State (6), Clemson (7), Georgia (6), Michigan (6), Notre Dame (5), Ohio State (7), Oklahoma (6), Troy (5) and Washington (5).
Penn State clinched its second-straight 10+ win season, joining Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, LSU Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Troy, Tulane and Washington as teams who have posted 10+ win seasons in 2022 and 2023. The Nittany Lions reached 10+ wins for the fifth time in the James Franklin era and earned seven Big Ten wins for the eighth time in program history.
