Wildcats win third straight in low scoring slugfest with DuBois
By Bees O’Brien
DUBOIS, PA- Central Mountain took to the road for the first time this season to take on the Beavers of DuBois out of District 9. The Wildcats were looking to remain perfect on the season and entered the contest averaging 82.5 points per contest in victories over Bellefonte and Claysburg-Kimmel.
Dubois found a way to contain the explosive Wildcat offense, but a resilient effort from Central Mountain would help the visitors erase a fourth quarter deficit and remain perfect on the young season with a 48-45 victory.
Central Mountain opened up the game with a 15-12 first quarter advantage. Both teams only managed 10 points apiece in the second quarter.
The Wildcats would see their 25-22 halftime lead slip away in the third quarter. DuBois would use a 15-10 third quarter to take a 37-35 lead.
The Wildcats would respond with a 13-8 final frame, ignited by scoring from four different players to seal up the nonconference win.
Hunter Hoy once again led the Wildcats with 16 points. Caleb Mahoney also hit double figures by dropping in 10 points.
The Wildcats connected on 8 three-point baskets. Xavier Persun connected one two of those and finished with 8 points and Max Verrelli added two more from beyond the arc and finished with 6 points.
Central Mountain will be idle until December 12 when they meet PHAC-1 opponents Mifflinburg in Mill Hall.
