LH Men’s Wrestling set to host Mat-Town Open Sunday, Nov. 26

LOCK HAVEN, PA The No. 19 Lock Haven men’s wrestling team is set to host the 2023 Mat-Town Open I Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 9:30 a.m. in The Haven’s Thomas Fieldhouse.

In traditional fashion, it marks the first home competition of the season for the Bald Eagles.

To date, it is projected that athletes from Binghamton, Buffalo, Cornell, Navy, Penn State and Virginia – among others – will join Lock Haven on the mats Sunday in Mat-Town U.S.A.

National Rankings:
On Tuesday (Nov. 21), updated national rankings were released and 125-pounder Anthony Noto remained No. 1. He was in action Tuesday night at the 2023 National Wrestling Coaches’ Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic.

Noto is one five Bald Eagles ranked nationally by InterMat this week. As a team, Lock Haven continued to climb and The Haven is up one spot this week to No. 19 in the InterMat team rankings.

Henson Named MAC Athlete of the Week:
On Tuesday, Nov. 21, nationally-ranked 141-pounder Wyatt Henson was named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Eastern Division Co-Wrestler of the Week. Competing unattached at Millersville’s Shorty Hitchcock Classic on Saturday, Nov. 18, Henson soared to the 141-pound title. He was a perfect 4-0 with two pins. Henson opened the day with an early second-period pin, knocked off the top-seed in the quarterfinals and he pinned the No. 3 seed – DJ Chavis of Virginia Tech in just 2:11 in the finals to cap off a dominant outing.

Back-to-Back MAC Weekly Awards:
When Wyatt Henson was named the MAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week earlier this week (Tuesday, Nov. 21), it marked the second straight week where a Bald Eagle won the award. On Nov. 14, Anthony Noto was named the MAC East Wrestler of the Week.

The 2023-24 Home Schedule:
Sunday’s action at the 2023 Mat-Town Open I will mark the first time the Bald Eagles will compete at home in front of the Bald Eagles’ faithful this season and it’s the first of two home tournaments scheduled for the highly anticipated 2023-24 season.
