ST. MARYS, PA- Bucktail rushed for 3,369 yards, scored 41 touchdowns on the ground and several individuals were rewarded for their total team effort. The Bucks would finish 5-5 and host their first ever District 4 playoff game.
1,366 of those yards and 17 of those rushing touchdowns were due to the efforts of Brody Pentz, but it wasn’t the offensive efforts that earned the junior quarterback recognition on the D9 League Region 3 all-star team. It would be his defensive efforts that were recognized, despite leading the league in total rushing yards. Pentz was named as a first team linebacker.
Pentz also was named as return specialist for the All-Region squad. He had some dazzling touchdowns on special teams, including a crazy punt return score at Cameron County.
Johnny Green had another big effort this season and grabbed a second straight selection to his career by being named first team offensive lineman. Green, who grabbed defensive lineman honors last season was a huge force during his senior campaign by managing to make it through all ten games injury free and leading a Bucktail offense that trailed only Jersey Shore in District 4 total rushing yards.
Fellow senior Evan Hillyer was selected as All Region for his defensive lineman efforts. Hillyer missed a couple midseason games, but still made his presence known throughout the league to earn the honors.
Region 3’s most dangerous all-purpose threat Braylon Fantaski earned All Region honors at wide receiver. Fantaski, a Mansfield University sprint football signee would catch 26 passes for 486 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also totaled 679 yards and 10 scores on the ground and toasted Coudersport on a 91-yard kickoff return for a score.
Bucktail fullback Tanner Pettingill was named as an honorable mention despite his 773 yards rushing being almost double that of the two fullbacks selected ahead of him. The senior also scored 8 touchdowns.
Coudersport’s Gavyn Ayers was selected as offensive MVP. Jespop Farabaugh of Cameron County was offensive lineman of the year. Otto-Eldred’s Braxton Caldwell was named defensive lineman of the year. Coudersport coach Frank Brown was named coach of the year after leading the Falcons to their second straight region title and finishing as a District 9 1A semifinalist.
