Central Mountain volleyball season ended by Altoona

ALTOONA – The District 6 volleyball rankings showed the Lady Mountain
Lions ever so slightly ahead of Central Mountain in the D6 seedings.
The two teams actually flip-flopped after Altoona swept the Mountain earlier in
October at Mill Hall.
This time on Tuesday the Lady ‘Cats hoped for a better outcome. A win would place
them in the District 6 4A finals. While the locals played hard and with
enthusiasm, Altoona again brought out the broom and swept the matchup
3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-21) setting them up for the D6 title on Thursday
at Bald Eagle Area playing State College – who whitewashed top seed
Mifflin County (25-18, 25-14, 25-18).
Coach Chipp McCann was pleased with the overall effort and especially
praised the seniors for their commitment to the program. Those senior
are Kendalyn Bair, Keely Rohrbach, Makenna Stratts, Julianna Onuskanich
and Addison Kelley.
McCann noted, “Addison was in her first year on the team and was always
there for support and was an asset. The others were with the program and
contributed to the successes our team enjoyed.”
Turning to the contests at the Altoona High Field House, the coach
lamented that some inconsistency, and mental lapses at crucial times led
to the defeat. “We missed serves and had a few key mental errors, but
overall we played them better than the last time. Altoona is a good,
well-coached team.”
“We have a good group coming up and, hopefully, will have more height.
This wasn’t the ending we wanted, but I am proud to have coached this
team.” Central Mountain finished the season with an 8-6 district ranking
record and 12-9-1 overall.
