‘Cats take Senior Night 7-1 win over Shamokin

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – Coming off a strong 7-1 Monday win over rival Jersey Shore, the Central Mountain boys’ soccer team was hoping to build on the momentum and capture a Senior Night victory over visiting Shamokin. The ‘Cat’s did just that, blistering shot after shot to take a decisive 7-1 victory.

Wildcat Head Coach Billy Hook was able to start all 10 seniors. Senior Andrew Brown got the start in goal for the ‘Cats and the crowd would see Luke Simcox in the front line for the first time this season. Other seniors included Asher Talbot, Colby Bakaj, Peyton Jones, Pierce Long, Taylor Heaton, Jack Grieco, Bronson Brungard and Zane Cooper.

The Wildcat front line would battle from the beginning and keep passing and shooting for the entire night. With just under 8 minutes into the game Bakaj would score the first goal. A few minutes after that Zane Cooper booted the ball in for the second goal.

Shamokin would try to answer with a goal from Indian Collin Steinhart. With 1:31 left in the first half Asher Talbot took a left footed strike for another Wildcat goal.  Luke Simcox played in the goal for the second half of the game for Central Mountain. The ‘Cats continued their offense with a second goal from Zane Cooper. Talbot played a strong game and had an exceptional night with a hat trick of 3 goals. Sophomore Griffin Confer would score the final Wildcat goal with an assist from Jack Grieco. Jones, Talbot, Long and Lincoln Breon all had one assist. Grieco had two assists.

Goalkeeper Andrew Brown had four saves and Simcox with two.

With the 7-1 win the Wildcats now 8-6 on the season will next travel to Mifflinburg next Tuesday to take on the Wildcasts before preparing for postseason action. Shamokin moves to 1-14.

The Wildcat JVs won their contest by a 2-0 score.
