LH Men’s Soccer celebrates Senior Night with victory
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Lock Haven men’s soccer team (3-5-3, 1-3-2 PSAC East) picked up a hard-fought and thrilling, 2-1, victory tonight (Saturday, Oct. 7) over visiting Shippensburg (4-4-2, 1-4-1 PSAC East) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.
Prior the start of the match, head coach Patrick Long ’08 and the Bald Eagles honored their 2023 graduating senior class: Ryan Foskey (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown), Zane Puhala (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area), Tom Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport), Kolachi Pombor Jr. (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport), Gabe Leach (Wellsboro, Pa./Bethany College), Colton Swanson (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) and William Kamga (New Cumberland, Pa./Alvernia).
Connor Swope (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) and Tom Pombor scored for Lock Haven.
Duc Do (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) and Puhala both turned in notable efforts for the Bald Eagles.
It marked The Haven’s first PSAC East win of the season
Lock Haven took control of the match at the opening whistle and the early pressure paid off in the 16th minute when Swope ran onto an errant Shippensburg back-pass. Swope darted by the goalkeeper with a quick move to his left and cut back inside where he tucked the ball into an open net for the 1-0 lead.
The Bald Eagles led 1-0 at halftime, but made it 2-0 in the 60th minute of play. Swope was at it again when he dribbled through the Ship defense and sent a pass to Tom Pombor who calmly sent a bending shot into the side net at the far post for The Haven’s second strike of the match.
The visitors got one back in the 65th minute and the Lock Haven lead was 2-1.
With just over six minutes to play and the Bald Eagles still leading 2-1, Puhala made a brilliant defensive play that cleared ball and halted a Shippensburg scoring chance.
