Wildcats edge Shikellamy 1-0 on Teacher Appreciation Night

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA-The Central Mountain Wildcat boys soccer team hosted the Shikellamy Braves Wednesday on Teacher Appreciation Night. Before the game each of the seniors honored a teacher who had made an important impact on their life. The Wildcats battled hard and got a huge 1-0 win.

The Wildcats dominated possession and play most of the game. In the first half neither team was able to score. Central Mountain had good aggressive possession and ball movement but would be unable to convert to score. The Wildcats allowed the Braves just two shots in the first half. Bronson Brungard, Cole Cooper and Isaiah Brinker played great defense and helped prevent Shikellamy from being able to score.

As the second half of the game was winding down the ‘Cats continued their possession and got the ball moving around the field. At the 73-minute mark Asher Talbot took a quick shot for the goal giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Shikellamy would try to pick up the pace and move the ball, but the ‘Cats prevailed to get the win.

After the game coach Billy Hook said, “Our back line played awesome. Shikellamy had a couple dangerous chances, but we were able to close them out.”

Griffin Confer, Pierce Long, and Talbot had multiple shots throughout the night. Coach Hook said, “This week we worked on finishing and shooting, and the front line is starting to finally do what they need to and put it into action.”

With the win the Wildcats move to .500 on the season with a 6-6 record. The Wildcats will hit the road Monday and travel to Jersey Shore before returning home next Wednesday for Senior Night against Shamokin.
