State police say no charges in animal cruelty probe

LAMAR TOWNSHIP, PA – State police say they last week investigated a report of possible neglect of a horse in Lamar Township and after talking to the animal’s owner and a veterinarian, no charges will be brought.

The police report said an officer responded last Thursday relative to possible neglect of the animal, a topic which had drawn interest on social media.

The horse owner told police he had been in touch with a veterinarian and the horse was receiving care. The police account said calls were made the day of the investigation and a care plan made with a “large animal vet.”

The doctor confirmed to police the owner had contacted her in regard to care and she did a follow-up examination the following day and that wounds on the animal were “pressure wounds” consistent with the owner’s account.

After speaking with the vet regarding the incident and the animal’s care, police wrote that “no charges will be filed for this incident.”
