STEP Pre-K program will continue

LOCK HAVEN, PA – On Monday, Clinton County Commissioner Jeff Snyder told county residents to “get ready” to feel the effects of the continuing state budget impasse in Harrisburg, stating that as a result of no state budget, STEP would be laying off staff, affecting STEP’s Pre-K program for 156 children. On Thursday, he said that won’t be the case.

Snyder said STEP subsequently notified him that the agency will be transferring funds to cover compensation for its Pre-K staff and therefore the program will be funded, stating he was “glad to hear that.”

On Monday Snyder noted the state legislature is not scheduled to return to Harrisburg until September after budget principals could not agree on a 2023-24 fiscal plan before July 1.
