State budget impasse hits local Pre-K program
LOCK HAVEN, PA – Clinton County Commissioner Jeff Snyder told county residents to “get ready” to feel the effects of the continuing state budget impasse in Harrisburg. His comments came at the commissioners’ Monday work session.
Snyder said he has learned that STEP, because of the Harrisburg stalemate, is “laying off staff” affecting 156 children in the agency’s Pre-K program. He warned, “Get ready, folks, this is just the start of it.”
He said don’t blame the county, it had nothing to do with it. Snyder noted the state legislature is not scheduled to return to Harrisburg until September after budget principals could not agree on a 2023-24 fiscal plan before July 1.
