Tree Tenders Training to be Held in Renovo Saturday June 17

RENOVO, PA – Our community landscapes are changing in response to competition for space in the face of diminished maintenance funds. Responding to this alarming loss, TreeVitalize is a public-private partnership restoring tree cover, educating citizens, planting trees, and building local environmental capacity. To enable municipalities and community volunteers, cooperating partners will host TreeTender® training on Saturday June 17, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at DCNR Bureau of Forestry office, 15187 Renovo Road, Renovo, PA 17764.

For more information, or to pre-register, find us on-line at http://extension.psu.edu/tree-tenders or call Penn State Extension at 877-345-0691 by June 13. Registration Costs are $10 to cover costs. Each participant will receive a digital or hardcopy of the Tree Tenders® Handbook, published by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. Refreshments and will be furnished, but lunch is not, that we may offer the training as inexpensively as we can.

This training course was developed by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) in collaboration with Penn State Extension Urban Foresters in southeast Pennsylvania.

Since 1993 PHS has trained over 6000 Tree Tenders in 150 PA neighborhoods. Since 2004, the program has been supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. In 2008 the program expanded to Pittsburgh and smaller metropolitan areas, and since 2013 it has been available statewide. Nearly 6,000 additional Tree Tenders® have since been trained.

Sponsors of this event are USDA Forest Service, State and Private Forestry, DCNR Bureau of Forestry, and The Pennsylvania State University.
