Central Mountain’s Lindsay edged in quest for second PIAA tennis crown
HERSHEY, PA – Central Mountain’s David Lindsay, a three-time District 6 Class AAA champion, fell just short on Saturday in his quest for a second PIAA state championship.
The Wildcat junior fell one win short of the crown at the AAA championships at the Hershey Racquet Club. He lost his final match, 6-3, 1-6; 7-6 (5) to District 1 champion Mikkel Zinder of Council Rock South.
To get to the final Lindsay took two matches on Friday and one on Saturday. He lost his first set of the season in his round of 16 match, falling 6-7 in the first set to Alexander Sterin from Council Rock South, the District 1 runner-up. Lindsay bounced back, taking the next two sets, 6-0, 6-1. In the quarterfinals he topped Cooper Wheeler, the District 3 third-place finisher from Red Lion, 6-0, 6-0.
Saturday’s first match, the semifinal round, saw Lindsay with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Cooper Lehman, the District 3 champion from Hempfield.
Last year Lindsay became the first Central Mountain tennis player to win a state title, also the first from District 6.
Lindsay has only lost two matches in his three-year scholastic career, the first a three-set defeat in his first PIAA tourney match in 2021, his second in the PIAA final on Saturday.
