Preservation for World War II gazebo tablets underway

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The tablets listing soldier participants inside the World War II Gazebo at Veterans Park in Lock Haven have been carefully removed and have found at least a temporary home at the Bland J. Rossman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1630 on E. Water Street.

Dave Harger is a principal behind the effort to create a new Veterans Park across from the Clinton County Courthouse. He had said earlier that too many of the panels and the gazebo itself were beyond repair and the gazebo will be taken down as the new park is put in place this year. Harger said this week that volunteers have carefully removed the tablets to the VFW so the public may still see them. “They are fragile, so we are asking people not to handle them. We may just keep them permanently at the VFW as we do have the room for them.”

Harger said a more permanent solution will be sought, that some are ok for display but some are in bad shape but might be able to be salvaged to make them readable.

Work at the park site is picking up as project volunteers aim to complete the new layout in time for the Hometown Heroes program in August.

Meanwhile there is an ongoing fundraising effort to defray the costs of the project; those who wish to donate may do so through Harger Utility Charities.
