We must be crazy
By Bees O’Brien
Farwell, PA- I could have taken up this week’s outdoor article space talking about the few opportunities that remain for sportsmen throughout the commonwealth, but instead I decided to take a lighter approach.
Let’s face it. Nobody wants to hear about the last 6 weeks of crow season or the last month of beaver trapping. I’ve done those types of stories before.
Let’s rather address that green glow everybody in the Renovo area has been seeing by the river from Route 120. It’s the one in Farwell that lights up the valley and is filled with leprechauns and little green gnomes.
That green glow is coming from our home. Yes, we’ve heard it all before and yes we might be crazy.
This wild obsession began with A Little Magic In The Air and myself and my wife Lori have just decided to keep the lights displays going. Many of you may have seen the red and pink glow from the beginning of January until the day after Valentine’s Day.
Just like that, the crazy people on Central Avenue went green and lots of green.
I figured all of my extension cords and power supplies were already out there, so why not?
It began with a colorful Valentine’s Day glow and then transformed into the strange, green glow you see now. It honestly looks like a scene out of Swamp Thing.
We’ve gotten a lot of compliments in regards to our displays and it means a lot to myself and my wife. A lot of hours go into perfecting these displays that are never perfect nor ever really complete.
Residents in the neighborhood have even requested that we cut down trees so that their views aren’t blocked from across 120. Sounds like a valid request, but they’d be missing the smaller details that can only be seen from driving by our yard. All are of course welcomed to do so.
Countless people have called us crazy, but it does give people enjoyment as they ride by and see the work we’ve done. We get a good amount of light gazers on a regular basis. The Valentine’s display was the big hit, but St. Patrick’s isn’t far behind.
In case anybody was wondering, the bunnies, eggs and pastel lights are here, while the crazy people anxiously counting down until March 17. Then a couple days later down goes that mysterious green glow and out comes the wild Easter display.
So to answer that question, yes we must be crazy!
