Power outage hits UPMC Williamsport neighborhood; hospital on emergency power

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – A power outage occurred Thursday night in the vicinity of UPMC Williamsport, putting the hospital on emergency power.

There have been few details thus far on the incident. Tyler Wagner, Senior Manager for Public Relations at UPMC Williamsport, provided therecord-online with this statement Thursday night:

UPMC Williamsport is currently operating on emergency power due to a community power outage. PPL is on site and we are working with them to get updates on when full electrical service will be restored. All patients in our hospital are safe and being cared for appropriately. We will provide further updates when more information is available.

Williamsport firemen had been summoned to the hospital at 7:20 p.m. after a report of smoke in the complex, according to a post from the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, but there was no report of a fire.

Additional information will be provided when available.

In an update, the hospital spokesman said no patients were evacuated.
