Fetzer selected as new Woodward Township Supervisor

DUNNSTOWN, PA – Longtime volunteer fireman Mike Fetzer is the new Woodward Township Supervisor.

Fetzer was selected by the township vacancy board Thursday night to replace Wayne Love who had resigned in December. The new supervisor will complete the remainder of the Love term, through the end of this calendar year.

Fetzer, a Democrat, was one of two township residents who had submitted letters to replace Love. Fetzer and the second candidate, Eric Jacobs, a Republican, were interviewed by vacancy board chairman Mark Miller, one at a time, with the other not in the room in the township meeting room. Each was asked the same six questions.

The vacancy board was chairman Miller and the two sitting supervisors, John Barth, a Republican, and Kyle Coleman a Democrat. The vote to approve Fetzer saw Barth and Miller voting for Fetzer, Coleman abstaining.

Coleman said he preferred that a Republican be appointed and said he did not like to be in a position to have to vote on either of the candidates, citing his friendship with both. Instead, Coleman said, the matter should go to Clinton County Court to make the selection.

Both Coleman and Barth spoke highly of both candidates and said they could work with either one.

Fetzer has 39 years in fire-fighting work, most with the Dunnstown Fire Company where he is President and Assistant Chief. He has been with the Keystone Central School District for 14 years, presently the district’s Environmental Health and Safety Supervisor. He was sworn into office immediately after the meeting by Township Secretary Jackie Bartlett.
