Someone scamming the Pine Creek Township Police Department

AVIS, PA – The Pine Creek Township Police Department has received a report of a scam where someone is calling and saying they are a member of the department and asking the person or business for sensitive or personal information. In a posting, the department said it would like to remind all citizens to be cautious when giving out information over the phone.

The police release said if you are uncertain who you are talking to ask for a call back number to call them back and confirm the activity is legit. Do not provide birth date, Social Security Numbers, PIN numbers or codes to access secure areas. The police department will never ask you to pay a warrant over the phone.
