Keystone Juniors Remain Perfect: Sparkle in 9-0 Whitewash over Canton (MA)
FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ- Keystone put it all together as they overwhelmed winner’s bracket opponent .Canton from Massachusetts, 9-0, getting a complete game shutout from Aiden Jones. Jones was efficient on the mound and he had a strong defense behind him. He allowed just two singles and struck out just three; issuing no free passes. He got the Canton batters to groundout four times but got eleven pop-up/flyouts.
He had plenty of support from the balanced offense with seven of the starters getting at least one hit. Watt Probst was a perfect four-for-four with a double and two RBI. Jones aided his own cause with three hits (one of them a double) and two RBI. Nolan Cross added two hits, including a three-bagger. and knocked in a run. Others with hits were Blake Walker with a double, Cole Cooper, Darius Shade, and Hayes Miller.
Breaking a close game into a rout, Keystone scored seven runs in the top of the 5th.Austin Frank got aboard on an error and with two out the bats came alive garnering six straight hits to break the game wide open.
Manager Steve Shade was pleased with the complete-game performance from his squad noting that every facet (pitching, hitting and defense) was strong.
The Keystoners now can rest and watch to see who comes back through the consolation bracket. Another win would give them the outright Eastern Regional championship. That game to take place tomorrow at 10:00 AM. Should they fall short in that game, another would be played to determine the title.
Canton got to the game with morning looking strong with wins over New York (6-2) and New Hampshire (9-4). Keystone struggled some in their first two game downing Freehold NJ, 7-3 and Berlin Maryland, 15-11.
