Keystone 10s shut out Athens in sectional opener, 8-0
BERWICK, PA – Bad weather Monday forced a one-day delay for the Keystone 10 opener in sectional play, but Manager Tony Miller’s team picked right up Tuesday where they had left off in winning the district crown last week. It took the 10s a couple innings to get untracked, but once they did, they downed tournament host Athens by an 8-0 score.
Three Keystone hurlers dominated: Chase Karstetter, Mack Packer and Carter Leone pitching a combined 3-hitter, striking out 14 while walking four.
Meanwhile Keystone was shut down through the first two innings, the game tied 0-0 at that point. But Keystone scored in every inning thereafter to surge to the win.
Carter Miller and Brooks Warner, the one-two punch at the top of the Keystone batting order, led an 11-hit Keystone attack with three singles each. Brad Brungard was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a triple. Packer drilled a triple and singles came from Carter Leone (with one RBI) and Cooper Strouse (with two RBIs).
The Keystoners will be back in action Wednesday, an 8 p.m. contest, the opponent to be determined Tuesday night.
