Clinton 12s win state tourney opener, 10-0
INDIANA, PA – The hits kept coming for the Clinton 12 All-Star softball team in their first-round opener at the state championship tourney in Indiana. Manager Shawn Weaver’s team pounded out 12 in all on the way to a 10-0 win over Section One champion MidEast Cochranton. The hit/run explosion continued hot hitting from Clinton which began midway through last week’s sectional tournament.
Clinton scored early, one in the first, two in the second and another in the third and wrapped things up with six more in the sixth and final inning. Meanwhile Camdyn Weaver was superb in the circle, tossing a complete game 2-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks. She made 71 pitches, 55 for strikes, facing 20 batters in the complete game effort.
Weaver’s sister Reagan helped the offense with a homerun and a double with two runs batted in. Mallory Wunder had a double and two singles. Maesyn Franquet had a triple and a single and three RBIs. Payton Williams chipped in with two singles and singles came from Karson Zidick (with two RBIs), Aubrey Miller (with two RBIs) and Camdyn Weaver (with one RBI).
Next up for Clinton is a Thursday game against West Suburban from Section 3 at 5:30pm.
