TOWANDA, PA – The Clinton 12 softball team, its offense struggling the first two games, came alive Thursday in the losers’ bracket final, downing Danville by a 10-0 count in four innings to earn a Friday rematch with Tunkhannock.
And while the bats were in play, putting up 10 hits, Clinton’s pitching was equally good. Camdyn Weaver twirled a 4-inning one-hitter. Weaver faced but 14 batters, struck out four and threw 46 of her 66 pitches for strikes. Clinton played well behind her, committing one error.
Clinton led 1-0 after two, then scored seven in the third and two in the fourth to end the game on the 10-run rule.
Maesyn Franquet led the offense with a 3-for-3 evening, including a double and two RBIs. Mallory Wunder was 2-for-3 with a double and Aubrey Miller had a 2-for-3 evening with two runs batted in. Reagan Weaver contributed a triple and singles came from Camdyn Weaver and Payton Williams.
Tunkhannock edged Clinton by a 3-2 score on Wednesday and Clinton will have to defeat that team on Friday to force a winner-take-all game on Saturday to advance to the state tournament.
