Clinton softball edged by Tunkhannock, 3-2
TOWANDA, PA – It was another tight one for the Clinton 12 softball all-stars Wednesday and this time Clinton fell just short, suffering its first loss of the season by a 3-2 score to Tunkhannock.
The Wednesday evening loss put Manager Shawn Weaver’s team into a losers’ bracket final on Thursday, the opponent a Danville squad they had edged an evening earlier. The winner Thursday earns a contest with Tunkhannock for the sectional crown.
The game was close from the start. Tunkhannock score once in the first to take a 1-0 lead, Clinton scoring in the third to tie things up at 1-1. But Tunkhannock put up runs in the fifth and sixth innings and Clinton was able to answer with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but fell just short, 3-2.
Two Tunkhannock pitchers held Clinton to four hits, Maesyn Franquet with a double, Reagan Weaver with an RBI triple, Camdyn Weaver with an RBI single and Payton Williams with a single.
Franquet pitched the first 5.2 innings, giving up five hits and three runs, only one of them earned; she struck out 10 and walked three. Camdyn Weaver finished with a third of an inning work, giving up one hit.
