Jones honored by Clinton County United Way
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The ninth annual Clinton County United Way Sports Night & Fine Arts Auction is in the books, the fundraiser for its benefitting agencies held Friday night in the courtyard of the Millbrook Playhouse.
The event marked the resumption of the fundraiser, not held in recent years due to COVID-19. United Way Executive Director Ben Green said the evening went well, those in attendance strongly supporting the auction portion of the program.
Albert Jones, Chief Diversity Officer for Lock Haven, Bloomsburg and Mansfield universities, was this year’s honoree for his contributions to the community. Jones has been involved in multiple community activities, including service on the Keystone Central School Board and the United Way board. He also has umpired/refereed at multiple area local sporting events for the past 18 years.
In his acceptance speech, Jones made a point to thank local longtime umpire Koochie Chu for getting him into the umpiring field and asked for a round of applause for him.
Jones came to Lock Haven from West Chester a quarter century ago to attend Lock Haven University and never left. He thanked his wife Leigh and children Collin and Kiahna for their support. Jones talked of his passion for youth sports and the local community and said, “I thank you for allowing me to be a part of that community.” He called the local community welcoming and nurturing.
