Beech Creek woman out $4,400 in online scam

BEECH CREEK, PA – A Beech Creek woman has been bilked out of $4,400, the latest online scam in the area. State police who are investigating said the theft by deception took place Saturday, Nov. 27. The victim is a 66-year-old woman from Kay Street in Beech Creek; police did not release her identity.

Police said the theft occurred via an online scam where an unknown entity convinced the victim to purchase gift cards with her personal funds and provide them with payment information over the phone.

Stolen, police said, were a $4,000 Sephora gift card and a $400 Google Pay gift card. Their investigation is ongoing.
