Bulldogs vs. Bulldogs in PIAA quarterfinals

JERSEY SHORE, PA – The Jersey Shore Bulldogs will face the Meadville Bulldogs at Clarion University on Saturday, Nov. 27 for a 1 p.m. tilt in the PIAA Class 4A quarterfinal round. Meadville advanced with a Saturday win, 34-27, over District 6 champion Juniata.

As ‘Shore preps for Meadville, they know what to prepare for: the District 10 Bulldogs picked up 389 yards in their win over Juniata, all on the ground. Meadville was led by pint-sized (5-8) junior Khalon Simmons; he piled up 190 yards rushing, had a 78-yard kickoff return for a score, blocked an extra-point try and, with the score tied at 27-all, scored the late game-winner with a 91-yard burst.

Simmons had 1,630 yards rushing during the season, averaging 11.6 yards per carry with 27 rushing td’s and 3 receiving td’s. He is backed by senior running back Griffin Buzzell (6-1, 205) who gained 1,278 yards (9.3 yards per carry) during the season and added 113 more on Saturday.

Meadville is 9-3 to date. The team lost two of its first three, 50-48 to Grove City and 27-13 to Butler but did not lose again until Oct. 22 to Class 5A Erie Prep by a 62-28 score.

After the win over Juniata, Meadville coach Ray Collins said, “We’re going to get ready for a really good Jersey Shore team.”

The Bulldog vs. Bulldog contest should be the classic ground offense (Meadville) against a really stingy defense (Jersey Shore). ‘Shore (13-0) held Allentown Central Catholic to just one first half score and pitched a shutout in the second half in its round of 16 win on ACC’s home turf.
