Metta Bickel Williamson

Obituary

Metta Bickel Williamson, 90, of Woolrich, went to her heavenly home on October 8, 2021 with family by her side at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Metta was born September 16, 1931 to the late Joseph J. Bickel and Dorothy M. Barner.

She was the wife of the late James M “Wimpy” Williamson, who passed away June 10, 2012.

Metta grew up in Woolrich and was very active with the Woolrich United Methodist Church Youth group where she enjoyed performing plays at the park, roller skating and ice skating. Metta was still a WUMC member. One of her first youth jobs was the paper route throughout Woolrich on her brother Joe’s bicycle.

Metta worked in the office part-time and later full-time at Pearce Blanket Division of Woolrich Woolen Mills, retiring in 1994. Her full-time job was raising her family.

Wimp & Metta enjoyed raising their four children, Randy Williamson (Teena) of Lewisburg, Rodney Williamson of Woolrich, Mala (John) Moore of Loganton, and Dana (Tim) Boardman of Woolrich. They were also blessed to have watched eight grandsons, four granddaughters, twenty great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild grow.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Bickel; sister-in-law, Pat Bickel; and brother-in-law, Jim Breining. Surviving is a sister, Fairy Jean Breining of Jersey Shore; a brother, Shuman Bickel of Charleton; a brother-in-law, Bruce (Eileen) Williamson Jr. of Ozark, AL; three sister-in-law’s, Jean Henry of Jersey Shore, Nancy Karichner of Woolrich and Gwen Bickel of Woolrich; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She will always be remembered as a caring wife, mom, and grammie to her family- whom she gave to when called upon.  She loved to bake and plan meals, always looking for new recipes to share with her family.

A Memorial Service for Metta B. Williamson will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 11 A.M. at the Woolrich United Methodist Church, 1080 Park Ave., Woolrich, PA 17779.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woolrich United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745.
