Anastos Tied for Third on Day One of D6 Golf
CRESSON – Sophomore Alexis Anastos got off to a solid start Wednesday, day one of the District 6 girls’ golf tournament.
The two-day event is being played at the windy and cold Summit Country Club located at the top of Cresson Mountain,2240 feet above sea level in conditions of 30-40 mph winds and in temperatures that never reached 60°F.
Coach Dave Williams was monitoring another group of girls, and even with 5 layers of clothes, he was still complaining of the cold conditions. Alexis’s parents were both on the course following her and supportive in her first attempt at trying to advance through the Districts to Regionals.
Alexis finished with a first day total of an astounding 94, earning her a tie for third place going into the second and final day.
Coach Williams said he is confident that she will score even lower tomorrow since she has had a chance to see the course and feels that on the second day, she may even score below a 90, giving her a chance to advance to the Regionals next week. He feels that she has the confidence, skills and competitive attitude to reach that goal or at least come in among the top two or three for the AAA teams’ individual scores. District 6 only advances one AAA school girl with the lowest score to compete in the Regionals next week. That makes it tough on the larger schools. The AA-qualified schools get to advance three players. Coach Williams is looking forward to tomorrow because he feels Alexis has a real chance to move on.
